AROMATHERAPY BLENDING GUIDELINES

Safe, effective ways to create your own custom essential oil blend

Basic Blending Principles

Essential oils are categorized by their aromatic characteristics, which help create balanced, harmonious blends:

- Top Notes: Light, uplifting scents that evaporate quickly (e.g., Lemon, Pink Grapefruit, Spearmint)

- Middle Notes: Warm, full-bodied scents that form the heart of a blend (e.g., Lavender True, Clary Sage, Mandarin)

- Base Notes: Deep, long-lasting scents that ground the blend (e.g., Frankincense, Organic Mānuka, Pine)

General Ratio: 30% top notes : 50% middle notes : 20% base notes

Safety First

- Always dilute essential oils before applying to skin (use a carrier oil like jojoba, sweet almond, or coconut)

- Recommended dilution rate: 2-3 drops of essential oil per 10ml of carrier oil

- Patch test new blends on a small area of skin before full use

- Keep out of reach of children and pets

- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes

- Consult a healthcare provider if pregnant, nursing, or have underlying health conditions

Blending Methods

For Diffusers

- Use 3-5 drops total per 100ml of water

- Mix oils directly in the diffuser reservoir

- Let the blend diffuse for 30-60 minutes at a time

For Topical Use

- Combine essential oils in a dark glass bottle

- Add carrier oil and shake well to mix

- Label blends with ingredients and date

For Room Sprays

- Mix 10-15 drops of essential oils with 100ml distilled water and 1 tsp witch Hazel.

The Botanical Library — Crafting Your 2026 Wellness Ritual

By Bumble & Birdie NZ

In 2026, wellness is no longer about finding a "quick fix"—it’s about returning to the source. At Bumble & Birdie, our collection of 16 single essential oils is designed to be your personal botanical library. Whether you are looking to ground your spirit or invigorate your workspace, these oils offer a direct connection to the Earth's most potent chemistry.

The Crown Jewels: Mānuka and Kānuka

While our range spans the globe, our hearts remain in New Zealand. Our Organic Mānuka and Kānuka oils are distilled with deep respect for traditional knowledge. Mānuka remains the ultimate skin-healer, while Kānuka is our "secret weapon" for physical recovery. Unlike many commercial oils, ours are small-batch and sustainably foraged, ensuring every drop carries the mana (prestige) of the land.

The Art of the Single Note

Why choose a single oil over a blend? In a world of overstimulation, single notes allow you to listen to what your body truly needs.

- Need Focus? A drop of Organic Rosemary on a tissue near your desk can sharpen your cognitive edge.

- Need Peace? Our Lavender True (a unique NZ-French hybrid) creates a sanctuary in your bedroom that pre-blended sprays simply can’t match.

- Need a Reset? Pink Grapefruit and Spearmint provide a sensory "brightening" that clears away the afternoon slump.

Sustainability in Every Drop

True to our "Bumble & Birdie" ethos, our oils are housed in glass with aluminium closures—no unnecessary plastic, no excess packaging. When you choose an oil from our 2026 range, you aren't just buying a scent; you are supporting a sustainable ecosystem that prioritizes the planet as much as your personal health.

Your ritual starts here. Explore the full collection and discover the history, science, and soul behind every bottle at the [Bumble & Birdie NZ Shop].
